ULTILOW

With an increasing focus on climate change and environmental impact, using ULTILOW helps to improve the  sustainability of highways maintenance activities.

ULTILOW warm mix asphalts are manufactured at lower temperatures than conventional hot mix asphalts. They use less fuel during the manufacturing process which reduces associated carbon emissions for improved sustainability and reduced impact on climate change.

ULTILOW offers improved productivity within paving windows. Where time restrictions are relevant, larger sections can be laid and still opened to traffic as required, thereby reducing the overall contract programme duration.

ULTILOW is supplied at temperatures typically 40°C lower than a hot equivalent. As a result it reaches appropriate trafficking temperatures quicker than hot mix asphalt. This feature is particularly relevant when thick construction layers are necessary. Faster construction times keep busy roads moving, minimising disruption to road users.

ULTILOW is a lower carbon road surfacing. With lower carbon emissions during production than hotmix asphalts, ULTILOW warm mix asphalts offer a more sustainable choice of road surface.

ULTILOW asphalts can deliver carbon footprint savings of up to 15% compared to hot equivalents.

ULTILOW warm mix asphalt can be supplied and laid all year round and offer excellent workability, even in lower seasonal temperatures.

ULTILOW can be used in used on a wide range of roads from motorways and trunk roads to cycle paths and footpaths.

ULTILOW allows for faster resurfacing in limited time window. ULTILOW asphalts are supplied at lower temperatures so they are quicker to reach trafficking temperatures, enabling shorter programme times or more paving to be completed and still reopened to traffic.

Tarmac has manufactured ULTILOW since 2013. Today, we are proud to have supplied over 2 million tonnes (correct as of 2020) of warm mix asphalt for use on UK roads. This shows a growing momentum within the industry towards making more sustainable choices when it comes to surfacing materials and investing in lower carbon asphalts.

ULTILOW helps to improve site safety for road surfacing. Lower asphalt temperatures during paving operations mean less risk of burns and reduced fumes and steam on site which can impact on visibility at times.

ULTILOW technology is available throughout the UK, over a wide range of standard mixes and Tarmac Ultimate asphalts.

ULTILOW is supplied and laid at lower temperatures, the material can be reopened to traffic earlier.

With the exception of an HRA that requires application of a pre coated chipping, all other products are available as an ULTILOW.
