We provide our products, services and solutions through four distinct business units that operate locally across the UK; our Materials business, providing aggregates, asphalt and readymixed concrete, our Building Products business, our Contracting business and our Cement, Lime & Powders business.

Materials - Aggregates, Asphalt and Readymix Concrete

Our Materials business unit brings together our Aggregates & Asphalt and Readymix teams to create a new business unit that will enable Tarmac to get closer to our customers, build stronger relationships and deliver the right level of service. The Materials business is split into three regions and nine local areas covering multi-product expertise and offering excellent customer service.

Changes to our business in 2018

We have continued to grow our business and have maintained our focused growth strategy with a number of strategic investments across our business in 2018. We are excited by the acquisition of more than 25 additional readymix concrete plants from the Breedon Group and the purchase of Hopkins Concrete. We completed the acquisition of Alun Griffiths, a successful and well-respected regional civil engineering and surfacing business in the UK, operating largely in Wales, the Midlands, and South West England and created a new Infrastructure team within our Contracting business. We have also continued to integrate our business processes with the wider CRH group, aligning our business strategy and approach with CRH’s four strategic pillars; continuous improvement, focused growth, extracting the benefits of scale and leadership development.

In 2018, we divested four sites as part of the deal with Breedon Group, outsourced the sales, marketing and waste compliance aspects of our recycling operations to GRS Earth Solutions Ltd, part of the GRS Group and ceased operations at our ScotAsh business following the closure of Longannet power station.
