Former quarry opens as nature reserve

Minera Quarry, one of our disused limestones quarries in Wrexham, officially opened as a nature reserve in May 2018, thanks to a partnership with North Wales Wildlife Trust (NWWT) and a Tarmac donation of £100,000, to help turn the former quarry into an outstanding community and wildlife resource.

It is a site of varied wildlife habitats, including wildflower-rich grassland and developing woodland and much of it has been designated a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI).

Lloyd McInally, development manager, said: “We’re thrilled Minera Quarry has finally opened to the public as a nature reserve, and we were thrilled to see so many members of the public turnout for the opening day”.
