Building stronger relationships is one of the ways our volunteering helps provide a net positive contribution to our local communities. Here just a few examples of the way Tarmac employees have been building stronger relations in their local communities in 2018.

Contracting Supports World-class Norfolk & Norwich Festival
Our contracting team has strengthened its relationship with the people of Norfolk and Norwich by supporting the Norfolk & Norwich Festival for the fourth year running. The community enjoyed world-class performances from across Europe and the UK in the region’s open spaces completely free of charge, thanks to funding from Tarmac.

Help for Herefordshire football club
Kington Town Football Club needed to increase its car park, to provide more disabled bays and enough spaces for visiting players and supporters. The Midland Junior Premier League side approached our Dolyhir and Strinds site for help and we supplied materials and laid the asphalt. As thanks for the work the club has erected two large sponsor boards along their pitch.

National Memorial Arboretum given helping Tarmac Hand
A transformation of an area at the National Memorial Arboretum is underway, thanks to volunteers from our Commercial Excellence team. Colleagues visited our Alrewas site to help with ground work for further landscaping at the centre for Remembrance. Plans for the landscape at the National Memorial Arboretum are changing with existing gravel replaced with turf. The Tarmac volunteers spent hours moving the gravel into a trench, ahead of both areas being turfed.

Cement volunteers help build parks animal enclosure
Colleagues in our Cement customer services team got their Postcrete at the ready to help revamp Sheldon Country Park. The team arranged to help the rangers at the Birmingham based park build a new animal enclosure at its farm. Beth Ashley, senior ranger at the Park, said: “The Tarmac team worked so hard helping us create an outdoor pig pen. Our pigs will love their new outdoor life, we can’t thank them enough for their skills.”

Construction solutions do their bit for Bromsgrove Big Build
Colleagues in our Construction Solutions business became the latest Tarmac team to answer the call when Nick Knowles needed help for DIY SOS. A Bromsgrove family, who live in a small terraced house, were desperate for help to adapt their home so that they could care for a family member with cerebral palsy. Ben Lewis, territory manager, said: “We produced a flooring design and calculations using our Rapid system to help maximise quality whilst minimising the build time. To be asked to be part of DIY SOS: The Big Build was a hugely proud moment.”

Hendre toy donations create Christmas cheer
Caring colleagues at our Hendre Quarry helped raise the spirit of Christmas when they took part in a local toy appeal. When local newspaper The Evening Leader appealed for donations for its annual Christmas appeal the whole team pitched in. A large number of toys, including Tarmac branded diggers and trucks, were handed over to the paper in December – ready for Santa Claus to deliver them to disadvantaged children in the area.
