“We’re the first in our industry to introduce this kind of technology across such as large fleet, and we are already getting positive comments from customers’’.

The latest innovation for our logistics business is having a huge impact on the way we manage drivers’ data and records.

The OneCard is a smart card system that holds individual driver records, such as driving licence, site inductions and training competency, in a central database. Drivers all have individual photo ID cards that are swiped at weighbridges and validated before the driver can load.

Cards can also be swiped by the mobile transport team and a driver’s competency checked on the spot. This is removing the need for paper-based records and gives us the ability to actively manage our fleet’s competency.

Following a successful pilot in our Materials business, a national rollout is now in progress, with sites in the North & Scotland and Central regions bringing more drivers online every week. In total, we now have over 1,100 cards in circulation and more than 6,000 driver checks have taken place.

John Anderson, national head of logistics, Materials, said: “The step change in data management and the way we can instantly access information on our drivers is fantastic for our business.
