Tarmac took home two top accolades from the national Highways Awards 2018, with wins in the hotly contested Highways Maintenance Efficiency and Highways Industry Product categories.
The Category Management Pavement community – a joint initiative from Tarmac, Aggregate Industries, Hanson Highways and Highways England – triumphed in recognition of its collaborative working practices to unlock efficiency and minimise disruption for customers. As well as winning the Highways Maintenance Efficiency Award, it also scooped the Judges’ Special Merit Award as the most impressive entry across any category.
Our partnership with Norfolk County Council to deliver optimised, risk-based gully cleansing through cutting-edge data analysis was also Highly Commended in the efficiency category.
There was more cause to celebrate as our collaboration with Amey, RSL Fabrications and ND Brown on a site-mixed asphalt innovation won the Product of the Year award. The expert panel of judges was impressed by the low-volume asphalt heating technology’s potential to deliver cost-effective, efficient and sustainable repairs.
Dan Wright, who joined Tarmac’s apprenticeship programme in 2017, was Highly Commended in the Apprentice of the Year category. The judges praised his excellent progress and valuable insights on a number of projects, including the Morpeth Northern Bypass Scheme.
Paul Fleetham, managing director of Tarmac’s Contracting business, said: “We’re extremely proud that our commitment to delivering innovative highways products, driving efficient project delivery and developing bright young talent has been recognised on this national stage”.
“The collaborative nature of the winning entries also makes it clear that working together to achieve better outcomes for our clients is crucial. Our congratulations and thanks go to our partners who share our values of developing the best innovations from across the supply chain to benefit the nation’s road infrastructure.”
